There’s something truly magical about a wedding day that’s built on love, creativity, and the joyful chaos of doing things your own way. That’s exactly what this sweet couple’s backyard wedding was all about, and I’m so honored I got to photograph it.
Set on a warm fall afternoon, this wedding was anything but traditional, and that’s what made it so special. The couple hosted the entire event in their own backyard, and every single detail was a labor of love—crafted, thrifted, or thrown together with heart and humor.
The bride found her dress at a thrift store, and she looked absolutely radiant. With vintage charm and effortless elegance, it was a perfect reflection of her personality. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, she and her maid of honor made the wedding cake.
One of my favorite stories from the day? The couple ran out to the store the morning of the wedding to pick up decorations. That spontaneous touch set the tone for the whole celebration. It was fun, funky, and full of personality. Everything came together in a way to felt totally them
Instead of a formal sit-down dinner, they embraced a potluck picnic. Friends and family pitched in with food, the bride made drinks, and it felt like I knew this couple and their friends and family forever.
As a photographer, these are the moments I live for. The authentic, unscripted joy, the stolen glances, the belly laughs, and small bits of chaos. It was a celebration stripped of all the usual expectations, and in its place was something real.
Weddings like this one remind me that the best days aren’t always the most elaborate weddings featured in magazines, they are the weddings that are full of love, laughter, and happy endings.
